Today I tagged along to a trip to Oakland with my friend Savio and his father for an interview with the legendary guitar luthier, Ervin Somogyi. A gentle and humorous man with more knowledge about the guitar + guitar making and its history than most. Throughout Savio's interview, we got to see some of the most beautiful custom guitars ever made. From the intricate wood carved designs on the guitar top to the complex inlays within the neck. What makes a Somogyi guitar?, Savio asks. Something that most guitar luthiers aren't conscious of is the "sound" which Ervin is known for, along with his finishes and designs. With almost two hours gone, Ervin took us on a tour around his shop and gave us the insides on some golden facts. Ervin will be at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival in Santa Rosa from August 14-16 . You can check out his work here http://www.esomogyi.com/ .
